New train work was done on Saw Mill Gulch Singletrack yesterday morning.  Looks like they had some out there as well.  Check out the Hardscrabble Trails Coalition page for more.  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Hardscrabble-Trails-Coalition/116805805073575?fref=ts

Update – they are doing more trail maintenance on Saw Mill tomorrow night 6/17/15

Last weekend was the Firebird 25 and 40 races and they had approximately 180 racers out on the course.  So, as you might expect, some of the softer trails (trails with lots of of gypsum) have gotten soft.  Ie. the moon dust is piling up.  Also, there are some pretty good ruts and washboard sections getting started.  However, trails are still riding really nice.

The cows are moving their way East from the Gypsum area over towards Eagle.  There were definitely cows on Firebox during the race last weekend and that being said, there were a fair amount of cow patties on the Firebox trail.  The creek/stream crossings were all manageable, but make sure you are in the right gear as most of the crossings have an immediate climbs and some are rocky and could be slick.

The Firebox singletrack down to the Mike’s climb was in great shape.  The Hike-a-bike section up to Mike’s wasn’t as bad as I have seen it in the past.  Last summer when I did it, it was really loose, so loose that every step up, was also a half a step backwards.  This time around, it was firm and easier to get up.  Mike’s down and Scratch was in great shape and a lot of fun.

Haymaker is riding really nice.  It is starting to get dusty, but still good.

The Vail Rec race series is in Eagle next Wed. the 24th on Boneyard.  So, I would expect a few hundred racers out there on Boneyard, Pool/Ice, and some of the racers doing the longer courses will even get on Haymaker.

Finally, the grass & weeds are growing pretty high, so just be alert for obstacles.
